Bloomberg Global Health Index released the result of a study which says that the healthiest country in the world is Italy. Hmmm
Each country in this index was analyzed and classified according to several variables, such as life expectancy, causes of death and health ranging from high blood pressure and tobacco use to malnutrition and the availability of clean water.
163 countries were analyzed by people from Bloomberg and the conclusion was that Italy is the country with the healthiest people on Earth. When it comes to living a long life, Italy is the place to be.
Italy is one of the most developed countries in the world, but its economic growth has stagnated for decades, nearly 40% of young Italians are unemployed and the country has one of the highest debt in the world, relative to its economy. And yet, the Italians are in the best shape. How come?!
A major factor is the Mediterranean Italian diet, based on olive oil, fish, fruit and vegetables, even when it comes to traditional dishes, such as pizza or pasta.
Meals are not so reach in quantity, and are divided in many small dishes, enjoyed on a longer term.
Italians used to dine with family or with friends, which, experts believe, it is important to relieve stress, ensuring well-being and a sense of balance and comfort.
The average lifespan for the Italians is 83 years, and it is also connected with another traditional custom of their own called “the passegiata” or walk after dinner they used to do. Moreover, the very Italy’s landscape, dotted by hills, contribute to the health of its people, because, naturally, most of them go through a simple movement, to sports.
And of course another factor that contributed to favorable healthy life is the mentality. And they have a lot of famous expressions like: “La vita e bella”; “Dolce far niente”; “A poco, a poco”
This makes sense, doesn’t it?
Not to mention the benefits of the Italian cuisine: it is delicious, easy to make and you can always enjoy a glass of wine.
