After the beautiful and wild Paracas we went dipper in the desert arriving to Huacachina.
Huacachina is a real desert oasis and the first that I m seeing ever.
It is the only natural desert oasis and has the largest sand dunes in South America.
How to get
The public busses won’t take you directly to Huacachina. You will have buses almost from each town: from Lima, Cusco, Paracas but it will take only to Ica and from here take a taxi till the oasis.
Of couse, it will be more difficult if you do the steps separately, but it will be cheaper.
Bus from Lima to Ica is 10-15 usd taxi from Ica to Huacachina is 1 usd, entrance fee in Huacachina is 3 usd.
Is another option that we tried.
The Peru bus took us from Paracas directly to Huacachina, and this was part of our Peru tour.
This was our best option, due to the short amount of time and that we travel in a large group of 15 people.
When to visit
Huacachina isn’t seasoned, so you can visit it whenever you want.
The place is not as famous as Machu Picchu, so it won’t get very crowed.
What to do
Here there are few things that you “must do”:
Buggy and sand boarding
There are many travel agencies that can arrange this adventure for you.
In our case, Peru Hop arrange it for 15 usd.
Here the driver will take you up and down the beautiful sand dunes. You will feel like in a roller coaster. Adrenaline will rush like hell, when you will see the buggy going down from a huge dune. And once on the top of one huge dune, will have the option to go for sandboarding.
Peru have great geography with variety of dune range along the coast line just perfect for sandboarding. The opportunity to board in the desert is intriguing.
There are two levels of equipment: beginners and professional, as they call it.
It’s definitely the of the most intensive experience.
Enjoy the desert, the oasis and the sunset
A green island in a sea of sand and this it’s not a mirage! The amazing oasis town flourishes in the middle of the driest place on Earth.
One of the best things that you can do here is to climb to the top of a wind-sculptured sand dune and watch the sunset illuminate the golden landscape.
Where to stay
Huacachina is a very small place, so there are few accommodation option, in general for backpackers.
We choose to have an authentic accommodation, we spent the night on a dune, in tents.
Ecocamp is a luxury camping with a relaxing, tropical atmosphere.
Don’t miss Huacachina while you travel Peru. It is such beautiful place to be. Nevers ending desert in the background and an oasis at your feet’s.
To have a sunset in the desert is simply magical. Standing on the top of the sand dunes while the last sunshine reflects on the oasis and the dunes is just breathtaking.
