Because most of you asked me how to find cheap flights, I decided to write few basic tips about it.
Most of the time, the flights prices have the biggest share of the travel budget, so it is very important to find a cheap one.
First of all you have to know that this is not an exact science. Everything is so relative.
If you want to travel cheap, you will have to understand that everything goes down to 3 things:
You will need time
You will have to be available any time
You have to be lucky
Use the best flights search engines.
The next time you plan to fly and you are flexible about which airline to use, try using one of these online tools for searching flights.
This search engines compare the prices of different airlines companies.
We are using skyscanner and momondo, but there are also other different site to choose from like: kiwi.com, Google Flights, kayak, etc
Finally, no single search engine is perfect.
Set up alerts For Cheap flights on your search engines
In addition to searching on flight search engines, I also recommend you set up price alerts for your wanted destination.
Enter the details about your intended destination, a range of dates, and let the website alert you on email when prices drop.
Search incognito or erase cookies
After searching few times in your web browser you will see that the prices will increase.
So, always search for flights in incognito mood.
How do you search incognito? Really simple:
- In Google Chrome or Safari, Incognito hitting Command (or “Control” if using PC), Shift, “N” or for Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer, hit Command (or “Control” if using a PC), Shift, “P”.
This will open a new browser window where your information won’t be tracked, so the prices won’t increase.
Be flexible with your destination.
This is the reason why we don’t know where it will be our next adventure.
Because we can’t be very flexible when we fly, at least we are flexible with where we fly.
Of course, it would be perfect to be flexible on the date and destination, this way you will save a lot of money.
Search engines have a tool to find the cheapest destination from your place. You only have to search: Everywhere
Airlines companies have some specially deals on certain destinations. So, only you will have to embrace those destinations
Be flexible to the period or day to fly
There are different rumors about traveling on Tuesday the prices will be low. In reality, you can not predict when the flight will be cheaper.
Of course, most of the time it is cheaper to travel on weekdays. You will have to search. Get a quick visual of prices for a whole month to see what days are cheapest for your specific route.
Don’t travel during peak season, Christmas and New Year’s Eve
These are the busiest times of the year so of course the flight prices will go crazy expensive.
Try to avoid as much as possible these periods.
Know the best prices of your flight
It is very important to know what is the lowest prices on the route that you choose. This way you will be realistic when find the prices. You will know if it is a good deal.
Subscribe to Newsletters on airlines companies
The best flight deals are often available on the big airline’s own sites. Time to time they have special offers.
Signing up to the newsletter gives you access to these deals via an email.
Always check the low-cost airlines
Budget airlines offer, sometimes, significantly cheaper tickets than the big airlines.
But this comes with compromises such as no “free” food/drink on-board, less leg room or check-in luggage.
While most big airlines companies offer a free checked bag be sure to look at the airline’s luggage restrictions to avoid having to pay extra at the airport.
Low cost airline usually don’t covert the prices al this luggage, and this can be overpriced if purchased separately.
So try to travel with less luggage as much as possible. Learn to pack efficiently and travel only with a backpack.
