Polignano a Mare – a balcony over the Adriatic Sea

It’s a medieval old town in the southern Italy, not far from Bari. It’s that that kind of city with houses build into limestone cliffs and caves high above the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. The sea here has an amazing blue color. Because we rented a car for the entire stay, we had the possibility to visit the entire area. Initially Polignano a Mare wasn’t on our list, but I was so happy that we managed to see it. After an Italian breakfast in Alberobello and a short walk around, we drove to Polignano a Mare. The journey may be longer on weekends and holidays. The cost of a ticket…

1 day in Athens

What to do in Athens in 1 day? It’s really challenging, taking in consideration the rich history, the amazing cuisine and grand sights. The secret is in not trying to do everything. Instead just try to find a balance to be able to feel this city. It is best to have a plan before heading out so you can see as much as possible in a short time. On the way back from Santorini, we had about 8 hours to wait for our flight. We didn’t want to wait in the airport so we did our best to arrange a visit of Athens. So we took the train to the city center and in about 40 minutes we were in front of the Greek Parliament. From the airport, there are trains to the city center that run every 30 minutes and the ticket price is 10 Euro. For the Parliament,…

From Fira to Oia, a magnificent hiking trail

It is one of the most beautiful walks that you can do in Santorini (a “must do in Santorini”). A 10 km road very well marked which will take you through the amazing villages, across the mountain, at the edge of the caldera. You’ll go up and down and you’ll discover the true Santorini. The trail is paved in places, but you will find some portions that are quite rough. The whole trail should take about 3-4 hours. Anyway, it’s a spectacular one! We visited Santorini in January and we were looking forward to going on this path between Fira and Oia. This way we could have the possibility to really discover the island. This island has to be felt. So in order to fell it you have to walk as much as possible. From Fira you can see Oia in the other part of the island, like a white…
