Rihiveli Island – The Maldivian style

As I told you before, Maldives is divided into two categories: Resort Islands and Local Islands. Resort Islands are where all the beautiful over water villas are, while local islands are for local residents but recently, locals have started to venture into the hospitality industry, as more and more hotels/guesthouses are built to cater for tourism. This actually helps the local economy as they use to only rely on fishing as their primary source of income. We choose to stay in a local island, Maafushi, is fairly affordable and from here we booked many trips and excursions. We had a day trip to Fihalohohi Island resort and we were so please about it that we decided to book a second day trip to a resort. This time we choose to go to Rihiveli Island. The island is situated at the South of the South Male Atoll at 49 Kilometers away…

Fihalhohi Island – A Little Slice of Heaven

To choose a Maldives island for vacation is not simple at all. How to choose out of 1900 islands? So you have to make a plan according to what is more important for you: the budget or the Maldivian paradise. We choose the best of the both worlds. A budget accommodation in a local island (Maafushi) and daily trips to these “bounty” style resorts islands.First Island that we visited was Fihalhohi Island. We paid 100 USD/ per person (30 USD for the speed boat and 70 USD for one day resort pass with all inclusive) and spend one day at the resort island. Situated within the South Male Atoll, Fihalhohi Island Resort features crystal clear water, white sandy beaches and lush greenery. It is 28 kilometers away from Male airport. Fifty minutes by speedboat from Airport and fifteen from Maafushi and you can disembarked on Fihalhohi Island. Some even claimed…

There has never been a better time than now to plan your own dream vacation to the beautiful Maldives than you can *actually* afford. While the Maldives don’t have to break your budget, it’s important to know a few things before you go – or you’ll make some costly mistakes: When to Go The high season is from December to March. You do risk rain at this time of the year, but it’s…

Maafushi Island – The other side of paradis

Since the government changed the laws and opened up the local islands for tourism in 2008, the whole concept of Maldives  which was only for the rich has changed. Instead of paying 3000 USD a night on a luxury resort, you can now book for 50 USD a night for two people including breakfast. We choose a hotel with half board – Kaani Beach Hotel in Maafushi Island and we paid 100 USD a night for two people.Maafushi Island is one of the biggest islands in Maldives. It’s surely the most popular local island in Maldives. It is located in Kaafu Atoll just 27 km away from Male. The size is 1270 x 265 m. Getting to Maafushi The good thing about Maafushi is that it’s easy to get to from the airport. There’s a public ferry which takes 1.5 hours from Male at 3pm for like 2 USD or you…

People expect to do nothing more here than sat in the sun, sip cocktails and watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean, but this is not true. There are many things to do in Maldives. There are two ways to visit Maldives: On a luxury resort which means a small island. The hotel will offer you a wide range of activities, but very expensive ones. On a local island. It won’t be so luxury but you will have many activities that you can choose from at very good prices and enjoy the local atmosphere. Snorkel and find Nemo We went for a half-day snorkeling tour with our hotel, Kaani Beach Hotel. We booked the tour one day in advance.
